I've trained lots of guys over the years just to get sparring partners since I never lived anywhere near a boxing gym. Before starting you need to be in shape to do the jumprope and bag work. No point in paying someone to tell you to do that. After that the quality of the trainer determines whether he is worth it. Talk to other non-competitive trainees if you can.

8/11/2020 7:59 AMI’m looking into private 1-2-1 boxing sessions as I would like to develop boxing skills and improve fitness.
Have any of you guys went to or still go to private boxing lessons? How do you find them? Is it worth investing the time and money?
Would love to hear your thoughts.
